Taking a walk back into time

Rancho-Nixon Historical Association opens new park

The Rancho Nixon Historical Association hosted more than 200 guests at the Saturday, April 22 grand opening of the new Rancho-Nixon Historic Park.

The park is located on Texas Highway 80 in the historic ghost town of Rancho, one mile north of Nixon. As the guests meandered under the majestic 100-year old oak trees, they read about the history of the area, compiled by local historian and author Donald Hoffman.

Guests also enjoyed taking pictures of the old chuck wagon, next to cutouts of four horsemen and the replica of an old cattle drive. They also listened and sang along to cowboys strumming on their guitars as they sung music from days gone by.

It was a splendid, sun-drenched, cool day, especially enjoyed by all who attended this grand event.

This park is open to the public, from dusk to dawn, and everyone is welcome. Please come to Nixon and take your walk back in time. Donations to The Rancho Nixon Historic Association can be mailed to 905 E. Central Ave., Nixon, TX 78140.
