Unemployment now at 4.0 percent in Gonzales County

Unemployment in Gonzales County rose by another three-tenths of a percent in July 2023, according to state Labor Market Information (LMI) figures released by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).

Unemployment in the county went up from 3.7 percent in June to 4.0 percent in July; however,

Gonzales County did not have either the lowest or highest jobless rate of the seven counties which comprise the Golden Crescent Workforce Development Area.

For the entire Golden Crescent Workforce Development Area, the unemployment rate for July 2023 was 4.2 percent, an increase of three-tenths of a percent but still lower than the state average of 4.5 percent. This represented a total of 3,914 residents in Gonzales, Calhoun, DeWitt, Goliad, Jackson, Lavaca and Victoria counties seeking employment out of a total workforce of 93,509 people.

The counties in the Golden Crescent with the lowest unemployment rate were DeWitt and Calhoun counties at 3.7 percent, followed by Lavaca at 3.9 percent, Gonzales and Jackson counties each at 4.0 percent, Goliad County at 4.1 percent and Victoria County bringing up the rear at 4.6 percent.

For July 2023, there were 388 individuals in Gonzales County seeking employment out of a workforce of 9,4587 with 9,199 reported as employed.

• February 2023, 4.0 percent.
