Gonzales VFW Post #4817 heard a program given by Keiko McCormick regarding the Gonzales Dog Adoptions Inc., a non-profit organization that operates the Gonzales dog shelter.
Keiko explained that an average of 400 dogs are accepted annually by the shelter. Currently, the center partners with another agency to find new homes for the dogs because Gonzales is small and has a minimal adoption rate. Besides their normal overhead expenses, their goal is to build a new facility.
Keiko said, “We try extra hard not to put down any adoptable dogs for the sole reason of making space, and have maintained our status as one of the very few ‘Open-Door-No-Kill’ municipal shelters in Texas.”
VFW members, in recognition of this urgent need in the community and the determined work Keiko and the Gonzales Dog Adoptions Inc. board of directors give to the community, elected to contribute $1,000 to this important cause and service.
