VFW Post 4817 commits to Veterans Memorial

Gonzales VFW Post 4817 has voted to give perpetual support to the Gonzales County Veterans Memorial.

After hearing an update presentation from Larry Mercer about the Memorial last Fall, VFW members considered several options to lend their support to the worthy project. Instead of a one-time donation of money, they wanted their support to be significant and long-lasting.

During their February meeting, VFW members voted unanimously to purchase all the flags for the Memorial twice a year, in perpetuity. The American-made flags will be purchased in May and November in commemoration of Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

This will ensure fresh new flags to be used for those important days, which mean so much to Veterans and their families. Additionally, VFW members recognized Larry for his tireless efforts to make the Memorial a reality.
