Bruce Springsteen sings about being “born to run” in his signature song from the 1970s, but there is an event coming up in Gonzales for those who are “born to rum.”
The third annual Gonzales Main Street Rum Run will take place this Saturday, Oct. 19, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event helps revitalize and support Main Street Gonzales and is back by popular demand.
You can register for this event at HYPERLINK "https://www.eventeny.com/events/rum-run-2024-14208"https://www.eventeny.com/events/rum-run-2024-14208. Check-in begins at 11 a.m. and continues through 1 p.m. For $25, rummers will get a rum cup and a commemorative T-shirt.
They can start the run at 11 a.m. or go eat brunch at one of the downtown restaurants first, because as someone who previously had a hangover once said, “the most important meal is the one you eat before drinking.”
Participants visit downtown merchants and enjoy rum and other libations as they make their way through the Main Street footprint. Local businesses will be offering exclusive drink tastings, great deals, and a whole lot of fun. There is no set time limit and rummers are encouraged to travel downtown at their own pace to enjoy all Gonzales has to offer.
While the Rum Run 2024 “officially” ends at 5 p.m., there will be specials being offered by downtown restaurants and other hot spots throughout the day, so you don’t have to leave the area right away. And most importantly, remember — don’t drink and drive and please drink responsibly!
The Gonzales Main Street program aims to create an experience-rich environment while preserving the beautiful historic features of the city’s downtown. Main Street’s vision is for Gonzales to become a destination for those seeking a unique, friendly small-town atmosphere and keeping our role in Texas history alive.
