BASKETBALL: Mustangs stay unbeaten after 46-37 win in Bloomington

The Nixon-Smiley Mustangs had a blooming good time in Bloomington Tuesday, Dec. 7, as they left that community with a 46-37 win over the Bobcats to remain undefeated.

The Bobcats took an early 12-11 lead after the first period, but the Mustangs (6-0) tied it at 23-23 at the break. In the decisive third period, however, Nixon-Smiley went on a 12-3 run that put them ahead, 35-26, and gave them a lead they would never again relinquish. Bloomington may have won the fourth period by an 11-9 score, but the final score favored the Mustangs.

The Mustangs were led in scoring by Dustin Mejia with 16, Ruben Bomer with 15, David Abundis with five, Fernando Mejia with four, and Holden Canion, Bradyn Martinez, and Luke Moses each with two points.

Nixon-Smiley was expected to open the Moulton Tournament on Thursday, Dec. 9, with Hallettsville.
