Dora Ann Soefje

Dora Ann Soefje, 84, of Gonzales, passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2024.  She was born November 10, 1939 in Seguin the daughter of Sam Clinton Zumwalt and Frances Elven Buerger.

She graduated from Luling High School in 1958.  Dora married Arthur Lee Soefje on October 28, 1961 and lived on the family farm in Ottine until her passing.

She worked at Warm Springs Rehabilitation Hospital for 35 years, starting as a phone operator and ending her career in patient admissions retiring September 2002.

Dora was very community minded, serving as a member of the Ottine Community Association and the Ottine Cemetery Association for 32 years starting in 1992.  She was a member of the Ottine Volunteer Fire Department and served as president for 14 years ending in December 2021.She was a devoted member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was known for helping wherever needed.  She worked extensively with the Gonzales Christian Assistance Ministry G.C.A.M. and served for 10 years as Board Secretary and later as Board President from 2016 until 2020.

Most of all she enjoyed reading and needle point and spending time with her family.  She is survived by her sons Ray Steven Soefje and wife Kathy and Will Soefje and wife Amanda all of Gonzales; sister Elva Mae Schutz of Louisana; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 20, 2024 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Lutheran Church with Reverend Ray Hagan officiating.  Interment will follow at the Ottine Cemetery.  Pallbearers include Landon Moree, Travis May, Marlin Maltony, David Schlamb, Will Vawter and Rodney Cox.
