Doug Coe, 81, passed away on January 8, 2006, the most patient, supportive and giving of men, he will always be loved and remembered by his wife, children, grandchildren and friends.

Doug was born September 19, 1924 in Devol, Oklahoma to Claude Douglas Coe and Susan Sarah Dillow and was moved shortly thereafter to Ranger, Texas and then to Kilgore, Texas. He attended Kilgore Junior College until he enlisted in the Navy V-12 program where he became a Navy Pilot and flew the Dauntless dive bomber during the end of WWII. He then attended and graduated from the University of Texas college of Chemical Engineering in 1944 where he met his wife of 59 years, Barbara June Coleman. After graduation he went to work for Sun Oil Company for 30 years working in Corpus Christi, TX, Delhi, LA, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, PA, Caracas, Venezuela, and finally Dallas, TX. Following his career with Sun Oil Company he formed his own energy company, Peak Energy Corp. and several affiliated companies. Despite his business success his greatest joy was his family to whom he was totally devoted. When not building his businesses much of his time was spent pursuing his ranching interests in Gonzales and satisfying his passion for fishing in Rockport. As the ultimate hobbyist he would build and fly model airplanes and talk all over the world on his Ham radio. As a true patriot he would spend considerable time espousing the virtues of his country.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara June Coe; his children H. Douglas Coe, Jr. and wife Patsy, Barbara Anne Coe, Richard C. Coe and wife Luisa, W. Philip Coe and wife Wendy and his seven grandchildren: Melissa, Amanda, K.C., Katie, Trent, Brighton, and Miranda.

He was preceded in death by his sister Marlene Gordon of San Antonio.

Our husband, father, grandfather was a kind, loving, generous and gentle man and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Funeral services were held at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, January 12 at 2 pm.

Memorials may be given to the University of Texas Chemical Engineering Department in Austin (c/o Dr. John McKetta), Texas in Honor of H. Douglas Coe or Park Cities Baptist Church.
