First Baptist Church of Gonzales is presenting “The Man Event” to be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27 at J.B. Wells Expo Center, 1653 County Road 97, Gonzales.
Guest speaker for the event will be Pastor Brian Johnson, the senior pastor at First Baptist Church of Winnie. Tickets, which include a BBQ meal, are $10 per person.
Johnson is a native-born son of the Lone Star State, having grown up in the small southeast Texas town of Port Neches, where he learned to fish, hunt and play golf. Through the years, he fell even deeper in love with the outdoors. He ran a successful dog-training business, DuckDogTrainer.com, and trained more than 1,000 dogs how to duck hunt.
As much as he loved waterfowl hunting and dogs, it could be said he was equally passionate about bow hunting. His bow hunting adventures took him to several states, including Kansas, where he arrowed a free range nontypical buck on a self-guided hunt that scored 209 inches.
If it wasn’t a bow or shotgun in his hand, it was often a fishing rod or a golf club. As a bass fisherman, Brian has caught multiple double digit largemouth bass and taught many others how to enjoy the sport as well. He is a certified golf instructor with the United States Golf Teachers Association and had a handicap index of plus 2.8 once upon a time.
Today, he is passionate about sharing the story of how he found true meaning in life along with his pastoral duties.
There will be a number of door prizes given out. For more information or to purchase tickets, call 830-672-9595.
