GISD certifies two school board members

The Gonzales ISD Board of Trustees held a special meeting Thursday, May 11 to canvass the May 6 GISD school board election.

Two new school board members — District 3’s D’Anna Robinson and District 6’s Ashley Molina— were sworn in alongside Ross Hendershot III, who was unopposed in the District 5 race.

As the new school board members were sworn in, another said his goodbyes after serving on the school district board for 21 years.

Outgoing District 3 Trustee Glenn Menking was recognized for his years of service with the school district.

Menking served with six different superintendents and more than 15 school board members during his 21 years on the board.

“We've had a good time and the board is still in good hands with five school board of trustees I’ve served with for numerous years,” Menking said. “We have two new young ladies who’ll do a good job and you just have to remember that you have to work together and individually you can't do anything so the day's going forward and we look forward to good things, thank you very much.”

The board also recognized former GISD Superintendent Dr. Kimberly Stozier for filling in for the vacant District 6 seat until a new school board member was elected.

In other school board business, the board returned from closed session and announced the hiring of a new police chief for the school district.

The district hired former Floresville ISD Police Chief Gregory Brooks as the new GISD police chief; Brooks has seven years of law enforcement in a school setting and 31 years in law enforcement, including working as a sergeant for the San Antonio Police Department.
