Gonzales man arrested for threat made to Gonzales High School

The Gonzales Police Department arrested an 18-year-old Gonzales resident in connection not only to threats that were made that were made to Gonzales High School, but they also are investigating possible charges related to child pornography.

Jacob Julian Reyes, 18, has been charged with a third-degree felony, terroristic threat to impair public service, place the public in fear of serious bodily injury and influence the conduct or activities of a political subdivision of the state. 

He was bonded out on Friday, Feb. 16, on a $25,000 surety bond by All About Bail Bonds of Gonzales.

According to the Texas Penal Code, a person commits a terroristic threat if he threatens to commit any offense involving violence to any person or property with intent to:

• cause impairment or interruption of public communications, public transportation, public water, gas, or power supply or other public service;

• place the public or a substantial group of the public in fear of serious bodily injury;  or

• influence the conduct or activities of a branch or agency of the federal government, the state, or a political subdivision of the state.

Instead of being a misdemeanor offense, if these conditions are met, the charges are upgraded to a third-degree felony.

The threat allegedly made by Reyes was sent out via phone call to the school at 11:15 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, according to the high school on Facebook. Gonzales Police Lt. Jason Montoya said Reyes allegedly made “threats/comments about shooting up the Gonzales High School and possibly being in possession of child pornography.”

Montoya said the report by school officials launched an investigation of Reyes, which led to obtaining a search warrant for Reyes’ residence as well as a third-degree felony arrest warrant. Reyes was arrested at 4:15 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 15 and booked into the Gonzales County Jail.

The search warrant was executed by GPD, Gonzales County Sheriff’s Office and the Gonzales ISD Police Department at about 2:43 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, and officers took possession of multiple firearms and narcotics located in the residence.

“An ongoing investigation is being conducted regarding the allegations of possession of child pornography,” Montoya said.
