Harold Tieken

Harold Tieken, 87, of Gonzales, Texas, passed away on May 18, 2024. He was born March 4, 1937, to Otto and Annie Englebach Tieken and married Elizabeth “Betty” Malatek on November 8, 1958. He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Harold attended school in Gonzales until the eighth grade. He then took on the responsibility of helping his family, along with his 12 siblings, by working on the dairy farm where they lived. He continued on in the dairy business for many years. He was a hard-working man of many trades until finally retiring from Johnson Oil Company in 2012. Harold enjoyed a simple lifestyle. He enjoyed his cows and dogs, mowing grass, a cold beer, and polka music. Affectionately known as Popo, he also loved spending time with his family.

Harold is survived by his wife of 65 years Elizabeth “Betty” Tieken, their son Bruce Tieken and wife Billie Jo, his brothers Donald Tieken of Gonzales and Dale (Martha) Tieken of San Antonio, sisters Lisetta (Larry) Tharp of Gonzales and Angela “Jeannie” Koenig of St. Hedwig, and sister-in-law Patsy Tieken of McKinney. He is also survived by his two grandchildren, David Ross Tieken and Shelby (Lynn) Meredith, two great grandsons, Hunter Tieken and Rhett Meredith, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother, 3 sisters, and 4 brothers.

Friends and family will gather for a visitation at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home on Friday May 24, 2024, from 10 am to 11 am. A funeral service will take place at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home at 11 am officiated by Pastor Ray Hagan. Interment will follow at Gonzales Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will include David Ross Tieken, Lynn Meredith, Gerald Tieken, Gary Malatek, Gene Tieken, and Duane Tieken. Honorary Pallbearers are Hunter Tieken and Rhett Meredith.  Friends may leave their condolences and sign the guest book by visiting www.seydlerhillfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to charity of one’s choice.
