James “Rusty” Lehnert

James August “Rusty” Lehnert, 82, of Gonzales, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2022.  He was born August 30, 1940 in Lavaca County the son of Fred and Agnes Ehler Lehnert.  He graduated from Gonzales High School with the Class of 1958. He married Ellen Marie Breitschopf on September 2, 1962. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church and served with the Texas Air National Guard.

He was employed with Goodyear in Gonzales as an assistant manager, McCaskill Used Cars and as sales manager with John Whitt Chevrolet. He later joined the Gonzales Independent School District Maintenance Department where he retired.  Rusty enjoyed cabinet making, woodworking, hunting and fishing. Through the years he also managed Little League teams.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Ellen Lehnert of Gonzales, daughter Karen Voss of San Marcos, sons Todd Lehnert of Round Rock and Kevin Lehnert of Gonzales.  Grandchildren: Collin Voss, Connor Voss, Kyle Voss, Lindsey Lehnert, Teiara Lehnert and Kellen Lehnert; sister Dorothy Taylor and brother Lawrence “Red” Lehnert.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Ed, Harvey, Fred and Gary and sister Rose.

Graveside services will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at the Gonzales Memorial Park Cemetery with Larry Fortune officiating.
