The Gonzales Lady Apaches are back on the volleyball court for the 2024 season.

The Lady Apaches opened their season on the road Tuesday, Aug. 13 against the Yoakum Bulldogs and Shiner Lady Comanches in a dual match.

Gonzales fell to both the Lady Bulldogs (16-25, 12-25,13-25) and the Lady Comanches (14-25, 23-25, 22-25) in three sets to open up the season 0-2.

Lady Apaches head volleyball coach Kim Payne said her team is young and a lot of the players are inexperienced.

“There's no excuses. We're learning the game and shaking some cobwebs off, but we're going to grow and get better,” Payne added.

The Lady Apaches got together and played well against Shiner to a point where they had five-point leads in both the second and third sets.

“We came out playing scared against Yoakum, and we can't come out playing scared, and we built our confidence from that, and gave Shiner a run for their money,” Payne said.

The Lady Apaches will hit back on the road Thursday, Aug. 15 for their first tournament of the season in Cuero.

“We’ve just got to take these games, and put them underneath our belt, and grow from these two games in. Take it and go with it on Thursday,” Payne said.

The Lady Apaches will return to Apache Gym for the home opener against the Smithville Lady Tigers Tuesday, Aug. 20.

Game starts at 6:30 p.m.
