Missionary Baptist Church hosts Back to School bash

Providence Missionary Baptist Church is getting into the back-to-school spirit with their annual Back to School Bash Saturday, July 27.

Donna Smith, the chairperson in charge of the bash, is excited to have the event for the second year.

“We want to give back to the community, the kids, and we just want them to have fun before they start school. I'm also a teacher as well, so I know that it is extreme sometimes trying to get ready and be prepared for whatever,” Smith said.

The event will have food, including hot dogs and hamburgers for everyone who attends; waterslides and face painting for the children; plus activities, including tug-of-war, dunking booths and more.

“We're gonna have gift cards given out to parents and they can use them to purchase socks and clothes or shoes. You know, it might not be much, but it'd be something to give to them, they can use it however they want to for help with the supplies and the needs of their kids,” Smith said.

“Mostly we want to show our love giving back to the community. Because we're a church in Providence, we show so much love working with people in the community, you know, come out and doesn't matter what religion you are, or whatever, just come out, enjoy the fellowship with one another and enjoy the Back to School Student Bash,” Smith said.

The Provenience Missionary Baptist Church’s Back to School Bash will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 27, at 1020 St Andrew St., Gonzales.
