Unemployment rate dropped to 3.0 percent in Gonzales County

Unemployment in Gonzales County decreased slightly to 3.0 percent in December 2023, placing it at the second-highest rate for all seven counties which comprise the Golden Crescent Workforce Development Area. This represented a drop for the county for the fourth straight month, according to state Labor Market Information (LMI) figures released by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).

For the entire Golden Crescent Workforce Development Area, the unemployment rate for Dovember 2023 was 3.1 percent, lower than the state average of 3.5 percent. This represented a total of 2,865 residents in Gonzales, Calhoun, DeWitt, Goliad, Jackson, Lavaca and Victoria counties seeking employment out of a total workforce of 91,751 people.

The counties reporting in lower than Gonzales County are Lavaca County, with the lowest unemployment rate at 2.6 percent, folllwed by Calhoun County at 2.8 percent, with Jackson and Dewitt Counties at 2.9 percent. Gonzales and Goliad Counties follow at 3.0 percent, with Victoria closing in the highest position at 3.5 percent.

For December 2023, there were 282 individuals in Gonzales County seeking employment out of a workforce of 9,255 with 8,973 reported as employed. In November 2023, there were 292 people seeking work in Gonzales County out of an employment force of 9,247 for a total unemployment rate of 3.1 percent.

In December 2022, Gonzales County had an unemployment rate of 2.7 percent. The 3.0 percent unadjusted unemployment rate for December 2023 was the lowest seen in Gonzales County since it was reported at 2.7 percent in December 2022.
