The Gonzales Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture has a new operations coordinator and will soon be looking for a new tourism coordinator.
On Wednesday, May 15, the Chamber announced that tourism coordinator Regan Wilkerson would be stepping into the operations coordinator position. She takes over for Laurie Cook, who left the Chamber to go work for the Gonzales County Clerk’s office as a deputy clerk, Chamber first vice president Lawren Kridler confirmed.
“Regan is very excited about her new duties as the Chamber operations coordinator,” Kridler said. “She had interned at the Chamber under (former Chamber executive director) Daisy (Scheske Freeman) so Regan knows a lot about our Chamber and how it operates. She really developed a love of working with the Chamber and with the city.
“Laurie did a wonderful job for us and stepped up in the time that she was here and we wish her all the best in what she will be doing for the county. We know she is going to be excellent wherever she goes.”
Kridler said the Chamber, which is located at 304 Saint Louis St., will be advertising for a new tourism coordinator and will be accepting applications soon for the position. The Chamber and the City of Gonzales work together through a partnership, Tour Gonzales, to promote tourism in the community.
Wilkerson joined the Chamber as tourism coordinator last Oct. 2 and hit the ground running, helping the Chamber get ready for its biggest event of the year, the Come and Take It Celebration. She was able to do this seamlessly, as she is no stranger to Gonzales or the festival.
Wilkerson worked at the Chamber as a student technician while she was a student at Gonzales High School and later as an intern during college. She graduated from Texas A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Parks, and Tourism Sciences as well as earning certification in Tourism Management.
