Apaches FC fall to district leading La Vernia

The Gonzales Apaches FC battled through a tough match against the undefeated La Vernia Bears on the road Friday, March 8.

La Vernia quickly got on the board with two goals, but the Apaches responded back with goals by seniors Jesus Huerta and Alan Orduna.

After Gonzales tied the game up before the end of the half, both teams received several yellow and red cards.

Apaches head coach Shea Seip said his team has to play their game and can’t play anyone else’s game.

“Next year, we're going to be the one celebrating. It’s going to be our district championship. We’ve just got to get ready. It's not over yet. We're going to play Memorial, we're going to win, beat them and we're going to get in the playoffs,” Seip said.

The Apaches fell to La Vernia, 5-2, but this year felt different for Seip and his team.

Seip said the difference between this year and last year is his team knows if they get behind, they can fight back.

The Apaches FC season came to end in a 4-4 tie with San Antonio Memorial Tuesday, March 12 at home.

The Apaches FC will return in 2025.
