The Gonzales Lady Apaches got back on the winning track with a 19-3 win over the JFK Lady Rockets Thursday, March 28.

The Lady Apaches improved to 3-2 in district play and head softball coach Michelle Uribe was glad to get back to winning and scoring a lot of runs.

The Lady Apaches, in the last two games, had trouble scoring runs, but that changed when they scored 13 runs from RBIs in the sixth and seventh innings.

“We were doing a lot of work in practice, so it was good to see it pay off and it's the scores showing on the scoreboard,” Uribe said.

Gonzales recorded 14 RBIs and the Apaches were on base 20 times from hits.

Sophomore Gyzelle Guevara recorded three runs, a double and RBI in the win over the Lady Rockets.

“We finally waited on the right pitches and we started hitting good and smart base running,” Guevara said.

Junior Sarah Padilla recorded two triples and four RBIs in the top of the seventh inning and was glad to get the offense rolling.

“It was really exciting. At first I was struggling a little bit and then coming up with my team and just being able to back them up with some hits. It felt really good,” Padilla said.

The Lady Apaches face the La Vernia Lady Bears in their final meeting of the season Tuesday, April 2.

Uribe knows her team will be ready for round two against La Vernia.

“I think our pitching has gotten better. I think our defense has learned a lot and if we can hit the ball like we did today, I think we'll be in much better shape,” Uribe said.

The Lady Apaches will host San Antonio Memorial Friday, April 5.

First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
