Lady Apaches sweeps season series La Vernia with extra-innings win

The Gonzales Lady Apaches made a statement with a 6-1 road win over the La Vernia Lady Bears in 10 innings Tuesday, April 2.

The Lady Apaches and the Lady Bears each scored in the fourth inning and went five scoreless innings afterwards.

Lady Apaches Gyzelle Guevara, Kelly Breitschopf and Alexis Hernandez got Gonzales on the board in the top of the 10 with five runs total.

Freshman pitcher Dixie Lester struck out an impressive 18 La Vernia batters in the win as she went the distance on the mound and only allowed five hits and the one run.

The Lady Apaches completed a season sweep of La Vernia and improved to 4-2 in District 28-4A; this is the first time they have swept La Vernia in a season.

The Lady Apaches will host San Antonio Memorial Friday, April 5.
