Barbara Newman, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2024, at the age of 71. She was born on April 29, 1953, in Dallas, Texas, to Bill and Phyllis Bedingfield. Barbara lived a life full of love, laughter, and devotion to her family, faith, and community.

Barbara married the love of her life, Larry Newman, on September 17, 1971, in Alice Springs, Australia. Together, they built a beautiful life, raising two children—Melissa and Roger—and creating a warm, loving home for their family. Barbara was a proud mother and an even prouder grandmother to her six grandchildren: Jordan, Christa, Courtney, Cheyanne, James, and Jaxon. Her heart swelled with joy at the arrival of her great-grandson, Asher, the son of Christa.

Barbara’s journey with Larry took them to many places, including Las Vegas, Bitburg, Germany, and Okinawa, Japan, before settling in Austin, Texas. She was a strong, devoted woman who supported Larry during his time in the Air Force, and together they made each place they lived feel like home.

Barbara earned her bachelor’s degree in sign language from the University of Texas and worked for 20 years as a relay agent for the deaf, helping bridge communication gaps and serving her community with dedication and compassion.

Known for her quick wit, infectious laughter, and boundless love for her family, Barbara was always the life of the party. She treasured the holidays, especially the times spent surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Her love for them was immeasurable, and she made it her mission to bring joy and warmth to everyone she met. Above all, Barbara’s faith was her foundation—her deep connection to God and her church provided strength and guidance throughout her life.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband, Larry Newman; her two children, Melissa (and her son, Jordan) and Roger and his wife Vi (and thier daughters, Christa, Courtney, and Cheyanne, and sons, James and Jaxon); her great-grandson, Asher; her brother, Rev. Canon John Bedingfield and his wife Donna, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Phyllis Bedingfield.

Barbara’s legacy of love, laughter, and faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

A memorial service to celebrate Barbara's life will be held at St. Francis by the lake in Canyon Lake Texas, on November 23rd at 1:00PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Francis by the lake.

Rest in peace, Mom. You are forever in our hearts.
