Carroll Wiley, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, coach, mentor, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2026, at the age of 84.
Carroll was born March 12, 1942, in Houston, Texas, to Helen Wade Wiley and Carroll Edward Wiley. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to Gonzales, Texas, where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1960. As a young man, Carroll worked alongside his father at Wiley’s Grocery Store, where he learned the value of serving his community—an example that stayed with him throughout his life.
After high school, Carroll attended Southwest Texas State University, earning both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. He began his career coaching at San Marcos Junior High School from 1964 to 1968, where he was a coach his players loved and respected. He then served as Registrar at Southwest Texas State University from 1968 to 1978.
From 1978 to 1988, Carroll developed and operated the C Store at what is now known as The Junction at Ranch Road 12 and State Highway 32. In 1988, he returned to Southwest Texas State University, where he served until his retirement in 2003 as Vice President of University Advancement. He later earned his real estate and broker licenses and worked alongside his beloved wife, Robbie. He was also a member and past President of the San Marcos Rotary Club.
Carroll married Robbie on December 2, 2002, in San Marcos. Together, they shared a life filled with love, laughter, travel, and adventure.
Carroll loved fishing, golf, tennis, and travel, but his greatest joy was his family. He was immensely proud of his children, Robin Wiley, Heather Wiley, Chandler Wiley and his wife Emily, Trevor Sanders, and Kelsey Buell and her husband Eric, and was especially crazy about his grandchildren, Damon Sanders, Katelyn Wiley, Colton Wiley, Slade Buell, and Harlow Buell.
Carroll is survived by his wife, Robbie Wiley; his children and their families. He is preceded in death by his parents, and brother Jimmy Lynn Wiley
Carroll lived by the philosophy: “They can’t take your smile.” He lived with a zest for life, loved deeply and made an unforgettable impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
His legacy will live on in the many lives he touched and, most of all, in the family he loved so dearly.
