Connie Jean (Bohuslav) Avant, 63, of Gonzales, Texas, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Connie was born in Hallettsville, Texas, on October 2, 1961, as the youngest of four children to Albina “Bea” and Clarence Bohuslav.
Connie attended school in Moulton, where she was a part of the school band, track team and basketball team. She graduated from Moulton High School in 1980 and soon after began working. Connie was employed with the Gonzales County Clerk’s office before taking a job at Gonzales ISD where she was a loyal employee for over 20 years. She was a dedicated member of the Gonzales community, PTA, Booster Club and First Methodist Church.
On July 3, 1982, Connie married the love of her life Robert “Bobby” Avant, and together they raised two children, Joshua Carl and Brittany Elizabeth. Connie loved being a wife and mother and was made for that role. She was her husband and children’s biggest supporter in every aspect of their lives, never missing a single game or event and always just a phone call away. From taking her children to dinner during their college years to filling their fridges when they moved, Connie always made sure her family was cared for. The only thing she loved more than her children was her grandchildren, Henri and Braydie, who were the center of Connie’s world. Connie also loved adventure- from fishing at the coast, family beach trips to Rockport and Port Aransas to mountain getaways, cruises to Alaska, cheering on Longhorn baseball, watching Bob play softball, and all of life’s sweet memories in between.
She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and “Coco”. Connie is survived by her loving husband, Bobby Avant; son and daughter-in-law, Joshua and Melody Avant of Austin; daughter and son-in-law, Brittany and Josh Garcia of Gonzales; grandchildren, Henri Avant of Austin and Braydie Garcia of Gonzales; sisters, Karen Pilat and husband Calvin, Donna Simper; brother, Ronnie Bohuslav and wife Christy; numerous nieces and nephews, and close friends, all of whom she dearly loved. She is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Bea Bohuslav, father-in-law, James “JC” Avant, and great-nephew, Jacob Simper.
The family will receive friends from 5 pm to 7 pm in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home on Monday, March 31, 2025. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 1, 2025 in the First Methodist Church in Gonzales, with Pastor Matt Pennington officiating.
