Felipa C. Camarillo

Felipa C. Camarillo, age 88, was called home by her Lord Jesus on July 26, 2024 in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on February 23, 1936, in Gonzales, Texas, to Isabel and Elena Contreras. She was the devoted wife of Jesse F. Camarillo, her beloved husband of 60 years, who preceded her in death in 2013.

Felipa lived a life filled with love, faith, and service. She dedicated many years and retired from the Texas WIC Program in Victoria, Texas, where she found joy in serving her community, especially mothers and children. Her servant heart was also shown through her role as a Catholic doctrine teacher (Catechist/CCD teacher/Cursillista) in Gonzales, Victoria, and San Antonio, Texas; an early life leader/volunteer for the Brownie-Girl Scouts, and her active membership for the Guadalupana Society at Sacred Heart Church in Gonzales, Texas, Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Victoria, Tx. and St. Thomas Moore Church in San Antonio, Texas.

Felipa's kindness and love touched many lives as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, sister, sister-in-law, and friend. Known affectionately to her family as "Pierre," and “Felipita” to her friends, her captivating story telling was a true gift and brought joy and laughter to many. Her unwavering faith in God was central to her life and her spirituality, wisdom, and teachings left an indelible mark on family and friends.

She is survived by her sister Angela Garcia, sister Isabel (Carlos) Sandoval, brother Ray (Nancy) Contreras, and brother Florencio (Josie) Contreras. She leaves behind her children: Jacob (Carol) Camarillo, Carl (Kim) Camarillo, Victor (Rebecca) Camarillo, son August Camarillo, and her daughter Angela Camarillo; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Felipa's legacy is one of spirituality, prayer, and teaching. She was a pillar of faith for her family. Her beautiful smile, warm personality, and comforting presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her life was a testament to faith, love, and service. A beautiful soul who is certain to have a place in heaven.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 2, 2023 at Seydler Funeral home in Gonzales from 5 to 7 pm with prayers of the Holy Rosary following at 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am, Saturday, August 3, 2024 at the Sacred Heart Church with Fr. Jim Kotara as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. James Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers: Jason Camarillo, Casey Camarillo, Carl Patrick Camarillo, Ethan Camarillo, Tristan Camarillo, and Jonathan Sikkema. Honorary Pallbearers: Alissa Camarillo, Victoria Camarillo, Lisetta Camarillo, Sophia Camarillo, Aubrie Camarillo, and Brandon Camarillo.
