Fiesta Guacamole highlights Labor Day weekend

The St. Patrick Catholic Church invites the whole family to enjoy the 44th CCGAW (Catholic Community of Gonzales and Waelder) Fiesta Guacamole on Saturday, Aug. 31, starting at noon at the Waelder City Park. This is the big event of the Labor Day weekend.

Many fun events are planned for the day, including a soccer tournament for children seven to 12 years old, held at noon, with further information available by contacting Adrian Rangel at 830-445-9506.

The big event, the Guacamole Mash, begins at 3 p.m with a menu that includes tamale plates, fajitas, mini tacos, hamburgers, roasted corn, snow cones, agua frescas, mini pancakes, fried pickles and cold beer and soft drinks. No ice chests or outside food/drink is permitted in the gate.

The raffle begins at 7 p.m. with many prizes in a live drawing. There will be a mechanical bull, jumping castle, games, face painting, and entertainment. The queen coronation will be held at 7:30 p.m. as well.

The festival will feature DJ Jimmy Z through the day, with Tejano music performed live throughout the evening. Artists will include Adaptacion Nortena and award-winning Magnifico Siete.

There will be a pre-festival live auction event at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at St. Patrick Church Hall.
