The Gonzales Independent School District has announced it will take part in a districtwide “threat exercise” set for Monday, Sept. 16.
This exercise is intended to prepare the school district for any potential “unforeseen threats.”
“An active threat exercise is defined as any exercise that includes a simulated active aggressor or an active shooter simulation. This will be a live simulation that mimics or appears to be an actual active attacker incident,” the district said in a press release.
In addition the exercise, the district will be doing a reunification exercise that is expected to happen after the drill.
“In cooperation with Gonzales PD, EMS, Gonzales Constables, Sheriff’s, Texas DPS, Gonzales Fire and Gonzales ISD PD, an exercise that includes an intruder with a training weapon/prop entering one or more buildings at Gonzales High School,” the district said in its release.
“We will have approximately 15 students with parental permission participating. The intent of the exercise is to train staff on how to act in the event of a real-world attack occurring on the District's property. All district staff will participate in the lockdown phase of the exercise.”
The active threat exercise is set from noon to 3 p.m. and the reunification right after.
