Gladys Tieken Campion, age 92, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026.

Born in Gonzales on May 29, 1933, to Charlie and Mary Siltmann Tieken, she graduated from Gonzales High School in 1952. Following high school, she moved to Houston to live with her sister while attending beauty school. On Easter Sunday, April 18, 1954, Gladys married Bobby Lee Campion. The couple honeymooned at Niagara Falls before moving to Maryland, where Bob was stationed in the Army. After his discharge, they returned home to Gonzales, where Gladys worked as a beautician for Bonnie DuBose before dedicating herself fully to raising her family.

A devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, Gladys lovingly raised their three children, Terry Lynn, Sandra Kay, and Rickey Lane. She loved gardening and firmly believed, “you could never raise a family without a successful garden.” She enjoyed growing flowers and vegetables, canning, making jams and jellies, baking cakes and cookes, and sharing her homemade treats with nursing homes and shut-ins throughout the community. Her German chocolate cake with signature green piping and her snickerdoodles became family favorites.

Gladys and Bob shared a love of travel and adventure creating memories with their family through yearly camping trips, especially at H-5 Lake near Gonzales, church camping outings, and later group tours across the United States. A talented seamstress and artist, Gladys also enjoyed woodworking, painting, and creating with her hands.

She was active in the hospital auxiliary, her beloved Bunco club, and helped establish the Saturn Cemetery Association and the building of the Saturn Community Center while also helping secure the cemetery’s Historic Texas Cemetery designation. Her faith was the foundation of her life. Gladys was a dedicated member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Gonzales, where she taught Sunday school, participated in Morning Circle, served as a Cub Scout leader, and supported countless church and school activities for her children and grandchildren.

Nothing brought Gladys more joy than her family. She dearly loved watching her grandchildren grow into young adults and begin families of their own, and treasured every opportunity spent with them.

Over the past six and a half years, Gladys was blessed by many loving caregivers. Our family is deeply grateful for the compassion, patience, and friendship they shared with her.

Gladys is survived by her daughter, Sandra Wallis and husband Keith of Palacios; son, Rickey Campion and wife Janie of Gonzales; and daughter-in-law, Ruth Ann Campion of Waelder.

She is also survived by her seven grandchildren: Justin Campion (Megan) of Gonzales; Jason Campion of Gonzales; Alston Wallis (Jessica Resendez) of Angleton, Texas; Kelsey Wallis (AJ Graham) of College Station, Texas; India Randermann (Daniel) of Brenham, Texas; Charlie Campion (Jessie) of Harwood, Texas; and Lauren Campion Murphy of Bryan, Texas.

She was blessed with nine great-grandchildren: John Campion, Asher Campion, Logan Wallis, Jaxon Beck, Royston Campion, Brooklyn Randermann, Brittyn Randermann, Wyatt Murphy, and Kiley Murphy.

Gladys was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Bobby Lee Campion; son, Terry Lynn Campion; brothers, Oscar Tieken and Max Tieken; and sisters, Maxine Braeue and Anne-Marie Boysen.
