Herman Louis Grauke, 84, of Gonzales, passed away Friday, July 10, 2026. Herman was born January 27, 1942 to Robert and Velma Gloor Grauke. He married Janice “Sue” Tenberg on January 15, 1966 in Gonzales. He was a member of the Gonzales Methodist Church.

Usually when remembering a man, you would say “he was a man of few words” but those who knew or ever encountered Herman Grauke would say the complete opposite. Herman was in fact of man of many words and had never met a stranger. He was known as a loud, joyful man who loved to tell stories of old and new to whoever would listen and those closest to him knew this the most. He was a proud father, husband, son and most importantly grandfather. He taught his children and grandchildren many things about life including how to be kind to others, how to walk in faith and how to enjoy life to the fullest no matter your age. Herman was a storyteller and many of his stories stemmed from his early life growing up on a farm, his time spent working at Boothe and Lewis and the Gonzales County Jail and tall tales of his adventures fishing on various tank damns, ocean peers and river banks. His passions included ranching and all things cattle related, fishing, enjoying a good hearty meal and most of all spending time with those he loved and to be loved by Herman was a true joy.

The family of Herman Grauke would like to send a heartfelt thanks to that staff at The Heights nursing home of Gonzales, Christus Santa Rosa Hospital in San Marcos and the Christus Santa Rose Hospice care team who cared for him, especially during these past few weeks.

Herman is survived by his loving family, daughters, Loretta Ann Schurig (Tyree), Carolyn Marie Rogers (Jason) and his beloved grandchildren, Ashely Schurig, Robert Schurig (Kelsey), Layne Rogers and Jasey Rogers and his great-grandchild, Carson Schurig. He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.
