Jackie Leon Whitworth, 67, passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at his home in Leesville, TX, having been receiving treatment for lung cancer since his diagnosis in April 2025.
Jackie was born in Trenton, MO to James Leroy and Edith Jane (Shandrew) Whitworth on March 24, 1959. Graduating from Trenton High School, MO in 1977, he participated in many sports activities, and spent his summers at his grandfather’s farm.
Jackie served in the United States Air Force from 1979 to 1999, receiving numerous letters of accommodation and meritorious commendation medals. His assignments include Little Rock AFB, Andrews AFB, Clark AFB (Luzon Island, Philippines), Whiteman AFB, Kelly AFB, and retired at Brooks AFB, Texas. His period in the USAF cultivated many enduring friendships.
After retiring from federal service as a Journeyman Electrician, Jackie worked with the Gonzales ISD, the U.S. Census Bureau, Goss’s Diamond A BBQ, and myriad of electrician opportunities. He was a hobbyist woodworker throughout his adult life through which he established Capote Hills Dulcimer, when he began building his own mountain dulcimers. Jackie was a talented musician and singer. Having taught himself to play guitar as a teenager, he went on to learn the banjo, violin, cello, and dulcimer. He shared his love of music everywhere he went.
Jackie grew to be a selfless man, often times helping others - strangers, acquaintances, and friends - without expectations of compensation. He truly touched more lives than he ever cared to admit.
Jackie was preceded in death by his parents and two of his four sisters. He leaves behind his beloved children, grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and his girlfriend Laura.
