James William Steele, known to many as “Jim”, age 82, passed away March 27,2026, surrounded by his family at his home in Leesville, Texas. He was born September 27, 1943, in Edinburg, Texas, one of three sons of the late Howard and Violet Steele.

Jim spent most of his life involved in agriculture. He was a true entrepreneur who always dreamed big but wasn’t afraid of the effort and responsibility required to make those dreams come true. Jim loved the outdoors. Whether it be hunting, fishing, raising cattle, or just surrounded by his dogs (Jackson, Bat, Reina, and especially Dottie). He always found happiness, especially when he could share the experience with others.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his first wife, Susannah Smith; his second wife, Dorothy Rahe Steele; brother John Steele and sister-in-law Lynn Weldon Steele.

He is survived by his brother, Mike (Mary Ann) Steele of Dallas, Texas; two daughters, Lynda (Tom) DePippo and Tracy (Ken) Link both from New Braunfels, Texas; one son, Will (Christina) Steele of San Antonio, Texas; one step-daughter, Julie (Tom) Stuart of Sugarland, Texas; one step-son, James (Lisa) Knerr of San Antonio, Texas; 8 grandchildren, Jayna (JD) Hunt, Patrick DePippo, Dillon DePippo, Courtney Link, Cody Link, Abby Steele, Jack Steele and Max Steele; 3 step-grandchildren, Trevor (Megan) Stuart, Zach Knerr and Katie Knerr; one great-grandchild, Jax Hunt; along with many other family and friends that will sadly miss him.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the caregiving personnel of House of Stars, and everyone involved with Heart-to-Heart Hospice. Their tenderness, sensitivity and care shown to Dad at the end of his life is something we will never forget.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 3pm at Seydler-Hill Funeral home located at 906 St. Paul Street in Gonzales, Texas. We invite all who knew and loved Jim to join us in honoring his memory.
