John Mark Zavadil, 58, of Gonzales passed away peacefully on April 10, 2026 surrounded by friends and family. John Mark was born on October 15, 1967 in Gonzales to John Lowell Zavadil and Linda Sue Hunter of Gonzales. He married the love of his life Diana Lynn "Dee" Burns on December 14, 1990 and together they were blessed with 35 years of Marriage.
John Mark attended Gonzales High School and graduated with the Class of 1986, where he spent his high school days playing football and working on his family's ranch hauling hay. John dedicated 21 years of his life to GVEC as a R.O.W. Coordinator, he was known for his strong work ethic and loyalty. They often placed new hires with him during their probation period because if they could make it with John Mark they would make it with the company. He took great pride in his work, and he built lasting friendships along the way.
Outside of work, he was a true jack of all trades - a mechanic, welder, and someone who could fix anything. If you knew him, you also knew he never met a truck engine he didn’t want to swap out at least once. He loved riding motorcycles and taking tours with his buddies. He loved going to casinos and playing his luck with the Texas Lottery. He was easy to spot on the Port Aransas coast with his Come and Take It flag flying and his lime green 'Mercedes' golf cart.
John Mark loved giving his advice to others and sharing his knowledge, whether they wanted it or not. His grandkids affectionally called him 'Bobo', and together they shared countless “spur of the moment” adventures. They brought him so much joy and happiness. John is survived by his wife, Diana Zavadil; his children, John Wesley Zavadil (Samantha) and April Bairrington; his father John Zavadil (Erlene), his grandchildren, Haley and Kylee Bairrington, and Blake Noahubi, and sister, Janna Christian (Brent). He was preceded in death by his mother, Linda Sue Hunter and his son, Randall Wayne ' Sport’ Bairrington, Jr.
The Zavadil family would like to extend a special thank you to the caretakers who looked after John Mark along the way. It took a truly special person with patience, strength, and a good sense of humor, to keep up with him. Your care, kindness, and ability to handle John Mark’s one-of-a kind spirit will never be forgotten.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at the Episcopal Church of the Messiah church grounds.
