Lady Apaches’ Madison Sampleton and Shelby Borjon competed in the THSWPA State championship Friday, March 15 in Frisco, Texas.

Sampleton finished as state runner up in the 220-pound division and completed her personal best in all three categories (squat, bench press and deadlift) with 1,070 total pounds; this is the highest finish for any Lady Apache since 2016.

Borjon finished in the top 10 in seventh place in the 181-pound division and beat her personal record in all three categories with 880 total pounds.

First year head Lady Apaches powerlifting coach Saul Hinojosa was very proud of how his two lifters performed at state.

"I am extremely proud of both girls for their amazing effort in competing at the State Championships. It is not an easy thing to do (going to the state championships) but these girls sacrificed, competed, and fought to make their goals a reality and they did that," Hinojosa said.

The Lady Apaches capped off their powerlifting season with six regional qualifiers, two state qualifiers and a state runner-up.

The Lady Apaches powerlifting team will return for the 2025 season.
