Despite being down two sets to one in their match against the visiting Falls City Beaverettes on Tuesday, Aug. 16, the Nixon-Smiley Lady Mustangs did not cave to pressure. Instead, they rose to the occasion and surged to a five-set victory, 20-25, 25-16, 25-27, 25-11 and 15-13.
Next up for the Lady Mustangs is hosting their own varsity tournament this Friday, Aug. 19, and Saturday, Aug. 20, at the Nixon-Smiley High School gym. Match times to be determined.
On Tuesday, Aug. 23, Nixon-Smiley travels west to Stockdale to take on their former district foes, who are now in Class 2A. Match times are at 5 p.m. for freshmen, 6 p.m. for JV and 7 p.m. for varsity. Then, on Aug. 26-27, the varsity plays at the Cuero tournament with match times to be determined.
