Larry Wayne Maulding, 73, passed away at his home in Gonzales, Texas, on June 26, 2025. He was born on July 20, 1951, in Edinburg, Texas to Harmon Lee Maulding and Helen Louise (Bowman) Maulding.

Larry was the eldest of 3 children. During his high school years, he was a theater projectionist at an indoor theater and a drive in theater in Port Lavaca, Texas. All his life he enjoyed movies and there never was a trivia question you could ask him about an actor or movie he would not know. In his early young years he ran full service stations in Sealy, Hallettsville, Luling & Gonzales. He worked close with his father because of his fathers health. He also was an assistant manager for Jack in the Box. Small guy that he was, he earned the nick-name “Big L” when he worked for 8 years in the oil field. On the rig he did everything that could be done from spinning chain to working derricks to drilling. He loved to tell stories about being in the derricks.

In between the job on the rigs he worked with Clifton Poe as an electrical helper and worked with Kelco Construction. All this experience sure did come in handy around the house.

For 3 years he sold Knights of Columbus Insurance and Hochheim Insurance.

During his self-employment years he had Maulding Power Equipment and was a U-Haul dealer. Then he did his favorite hobby, renting videos at Mauldings Country Store, Shady Oaks Drive In and Crestmart Video Store.

His last 15 years he retired from the Gonzales Intermediate Sanction Facility as a Residential Supervisor and at the same time for 14 years he was a Gonzales Community Service Restitution Coordinator. He enjoyed working with the children.

He is survived by his wife, Sally Koncaba Maulding of 52 years of Gonzales; son, Bruce Maulding (Lorena) of Gonzales; daughter, Lori Herries (Steve) of Schertz, Texas; grandchildren, Matthew Herries and Lauren Maulding & brother Roy (Corette) Maulding; and sister Eugenia (Jeannie) Lewis (Benny). He is preceded in death by his daughter Stephanie and his parents, Harmon and Helen L. Maulding.

Larry loved traveling and camping. He had a hobby of being a stealth survivor and wrote articles on the internet.

Visitation will be at St. James Catholic Church on Monday, July 7, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. A Rosary will be recited at 1:30 p.m. and a funeral mass following at 2 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Charles Koncaba Jr., BJ Bradley Bethke, Chris Kline, Dusting Adamek, John Patlovany and Clinton Rothbauer.
