Lynn Walt Sheffield, Sr., of Smiley, passed away peacefully May 11, 2025, at the age of 72.
He was born in Cuero, on Sept. 20, 1952, to Walter Zane Sheffield and Wynelle Parker Sheffield of Smiley. He graduated from Gonzales High School and then attended Texas State Technical College in Waco. In 1979 he married the love of his life, Sylvia Windwehen Sheffield, and together they raised four wonderful children.
Lynn worked hard throughout his life, first in the poultry industry, then with the Gonzales County Sheriff’s Department and later in the oilfield industry. He enjoyed cattle ranching and skeet shooting, but he was happiest when he was behind a barbeque pit or sharing great food with family and friends. He loved all things furry and never met a stray dog or cat he didn’t want to rescue.
Lynn is preceded in death by his parents and son, Lynn Walt Sheffield, Jr.
He is survived by his life partner Sylvia, of Smiley; a son, Stephen Tate, of Martindale; two daughters Brandy (Joshua) Gill, of Nolanville, and Dawn Sheffield, of Selma; sister, JoNell Sheffield Ortman, of Smiley; seven grandchildren, Bethany (Michael) LaLota, Jacob Gill, Adryan Brooks, Caleb Gill, Benjamin Gill, Donovan Brooks and Rebecca Gill; one great-grandchild; two nieces and an amazing extended family.
A celebration of life will be held June 21 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Smiley.
