Marion sweeps season series from Lady Mustangs

The Nixon-Smiley Lady Mustangs hosted the Marion Lady Bulldogs for the last time in the 2024 season Tuesday, April 9.

The Lady Mustangs fell to Marion, 14-10, and Nixon-Smiley’s streak as district champions has now come to an end.

Nixon-Smiley and Marion battled and scored equally in four of the first five innings, but the Lady Bulldogs scored four runs in the top of the sixth to hand the Lady Mustangs the season sweep.

The Lady Mustangs will close the regular season with back-to-back road games against Cole (Friday, April 12) and Luling (Tuesday, April 16) and a chance to finish second in district on the line.

Nixon-Smiley is 4-2 in district play, while Luling is 4-1 and must still play both Marion and the Lady Mustangs, who won the first game in the series against the Lady Eagles, 11-10.

First pitch for the Cole game starts at 7 p.m.
