The skies over Nixon will be dazzling on Friday, July 5 as the Nixon Lions Club and Mr. B Fireworks present the annual Fourth of July Independence Day Weekend Nixon Fireworks Show.

This year’s event, which has free admission, will begin at 9:15 p.m. at the Nixon-Smiley High School baseball field as these two organizations have come to an agreement to continue presenting this great event; which is also made possible with support; assistance and donations from a number of civic groups; businesses and private individuals and families.

According to the Lions Club, “No monies were asked of the City, School, Police and Fire Department; however we are appreciative of their support in providing location, public awareness and public safety. 100% of the monies collected will be used to continue the annual Fireworks Show in Nixon. These groups and individuals are not necessarily doing this to support the Lions Club; they are doing this for our community.”

Additional sponsors include Janicek Insurance; Nixon-Smiley Education Foundation; Camp House Concerts; Nixon-Smiley Livestock Show; La Enchiladita; Pioneer BBQ; Rancho Nixon Historic Association; Lazarus Energy; Alamo Lumber; Jack Rogers Electric; Third Coast Bank; Caraway Ford; Pat’s Beauty Parlour; Chief Mike Cantu & Michele James; Hon.
