Ascencion “John” Rodriguez, Jr.

Ascencion “John” Rodriguez, Jr., 76, of Gonzales, passed away Monday, May 8, 2023.  He was born June 15, 1946 in Gonzales, the son of Ascencion Rodriguez, Sr. and Vicenta Rodriguez.  He was a general contractor doing remodeling, concrete work and bricklaying.  He was a member of St. James Catholic Church. John was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 5090 and served for 50 years from 1973-2023.

John loved life, he loved his children and grandchildren with all his heart.

He is survived by his wife Maria Edith Rodriguez of Gonzales; daughter Linda Rodriguez of Victoria; sons Jesus Rodriguez of Victoria, Ascencion Rodriguez III of Gonzales and Daniel Renteria of Fort Worth; grandchildren Alyssa Molina, Elea Molina, Andre Molina, Jazlynn Rodriguez, Vincente Rodriguez and Jace Rodriguez; great-grandchildren Kolby Gonzales and Kain Molina; sisters Mary Jane Vera-Whalley of Gonzales and Christine Elaine Rodriguez of League City; brother Robert L. Rodriguez of Gonzales.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Lisa Maldonado, brother Richard Rodriguez and sister Delfina Schaeffer.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 11, 2023 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. with a Rosary being recited at 7 p.m. at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday, May 12, 2023 at St. James Catholic Church with Reverend Jason Martini officiating.  Interment will follow at St. James Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers include: Andre Molina, Vicente Rodriguez, Kolby Gonzales, Tomas Banda, Rene Rodriguez and Martin Vera. Honorary pallbearers include Paul Cerda, Kian Molina, Jace Rodriguez and Donald Flowers,Sr.
