Bertha Lea Cuvelier

Bertha Lea Cuvelier, 78, of Gonzales, TX passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, January 10, 2023. Bertha was born on February 19, 1944 to Thomas Adolph Hill and Ida Mary Robinson. After Bertha graduated from Gonzales High School, she went on to study nursing at Victoria College.

During college she worked as an EMT. After graduating with a degree in Nursing, she spent her career at Cartwheel Lodge Nursing Home in Gonzales, TX where she worked her way up to becoming Director of Nursing and later transitioning into Social Director. During her career, she trained many people in the medical field and cared for a large portion of Gonzales community members.

In 1978, Bertha met Donald Cuvelier at the introduction of a mutual friend, and they were married the following year. Bertha described Donald as the love of her life and they spent many happy years together fishing, hunting, camping, singing, traveling, and enjoying time with family and friends.

When Bertha retired, she spent her time volunteering at First Baptist Church and The Heights nursing home. She and Donald were very active in their church community and loved singing with The Glory Bound Singers.

Bertha was preceded in death her parents, Adolph and Ida, as well as her husband Donald. She is survived by her sister Annie Ganly and her husband Harvey and their children; her son Bruce Rusling and his wife Debra, her son Ray Rusling and his wife Tara, her son Ronald Rusling and his wife Robin, her daughter Kristi Stanton and her husband Craig, her stepson Scott Cuvelier, and her stepdaughter Sherri Schellenberg and her husband Dale. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 9 am to 10 am Saturday, January 14, 2023 in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow in the funeral home at 10 am with Rev. Josh Breslaw officiating. Interment will follow in Hermann Sons Cemetery. Pallbearers: Bruce, Ray, Ronald, and Colin Rusling, Craig Stanton, and Rick Shannon. Honorary Pallbearer: Kyle Rusling.
