Janie Irene Medel

Janie Irene Medel, 73, of Yoakum, passed away May 25th, 2023. Born Janie Irene Guevara on November 27, 1949, in Lockart, Texas to Santiago Guevara and Juanita Lopez. A generous and caring woman, Janie graduated from nursing school in 1984 and served patients in hospitals and rehabilitation homes in Yoakum and surrounding areas for over 30 years.

She is survived by her husband, Avelino Medel, her sons Fernando Cansino, Javier Cansino, and Avelino Medel II, her grandchildren Haley Smith, Mark Cansino, Candice Chandler, and Scott Chandler, and her sisters Susan Flores and Sylvia Guevara Banda. She is preceded in death by her parents Santiago and Juanita Guevara, her siblings Minerva Martinez, Aurora Zumaya, Oralia Curry, Freddie Guevara, and Catarino Guevara. 

A visitation will be held at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home on June 1st, 2023, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, with a rosary following at 7:00pm. A Mass of The Resurrection will take place at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gonzales, Tx at 10:00am conducted by Fr. Jason Martini.
