Johnny Malik, 89, of Shiner, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2024. Johnny was born in Lavaca County on July 30, 1934 to Johnny Joe Malik, Sr., and Mary Cerny Malik. He married Patsy Ann Gibson on March 1, 1963 in St. James Catholic Church in Gonzales.

Johnny was raised in the rural area of Shiner, Texas. He moved to Gonzales in 1947 and at the age of 16 went to work for the Cotton Gin in Gonzales. At age 18 he went to work for Western Hatcheries which later became the Boothe Hatcheries where he worked for the next 34 years as a dedicated and loyal employee.  Johnny was a hard-working man and worked long hours at the hatchery and tending to his own cattle and keeping the land productive. In the early years he kept his own garden which provided some of the best produce in the area.  He faithfully cared for the family cemetery plots and headstones in Gonzales, Shiner and Wied honoring the lives of family that came before him. On occasion he would take time for deer hunting, something he truly enjoyed.

Johnny met Patsy at a skating rink in 1960. He asked everyone he could about this pretty young lady that had him so quickly smitten and in good time they were dating and married 3 years later. They were a lovely couple who enjoyed the love of marriage for nearly 61 years. He was Patsy’s “Farmer Malik”, like a Knight in shining armor only with boots, cap, blue jeans, and work shirt, (the apple of her eye). They were loving, faithful companions to each other and as Patsy always declared “I love you” to Johnny, his simple response to Patsy was “Me Too”. Clearly not immediately demonstrative with his affections through the years but in the twilight of his time here he was clear as he told “Pat”, “I love you” and though an amusing response from “Pat” would’ve been “Me too” she held nothing back proclaiming “I love you too”. Love never ends.

Johnny Malik is survived by his wife, Patsy Ann Malik of Shiner, sister, Lillie Frances Krueger of Shiner and numerous loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Dorothy Broz and Matha Kresta, and brothers, Joe John Malik, Jr and August F Malik.

Funeral services were held at 10 am Friday, January 5, 2024 in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home with Rev. Clint Lowery officiating. Interment followed in Gonzales Memorial Park. Pallbearers: Carl Ray Gibson, Brian Gibson, Joey Dzienowski, Curtis Gibson, Marvin Gibson, and Rickey Gibson. Memorials may be made to Memorials Heights Baptist Church or St. Jude’s Cancer Research for Children. Services were under the care and direction of Seydler-Hill Funeral Home.
