Jovita Gaitan Ramirez

Jovita Gaitan Ramirez, 71, of Gonzales, passed away Friday, February 17, 2023. Jovita was born August 20, 1951 in San Diego, TX to Vince P. Gaitan, Sr and Tomasita Hernandez Gaitan. She married Antonio Ramirez on October 16, 1971 in Hallettsville. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Though Jovita was born in San Diego, TX, she moved early in her life to Hallettsville with her family. She attended school in Hallettsville and enjoyed attending football games and other events, but her interests changed after meeting Antonio Ramirez as she knew he would be the love of her life. After their marriage they moved to Gonzales and raised three wonderful children, Antonio, Jr, Robyn and Joey.

Jovita had worked for the Golden Corral and Cassie’s restaurants and Sweet Sue canning company all while raising her family. She was a wonderful and supportive wife, mother, and grandmother. She was sure to keep her house in order and prepare delicious meals for her family. Jovita was an excellent cook and took the time to share her knowledge of cooking with her children, along with how to properly care for themselves when they got out on their own. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed every moment she had with them. Jovita had many brothers and siters and she loved each one of them completely.

Jovita is survived by her loving family, husband, of 51 years, Antonio Ramirez, Sr., daughter, Robyn Lea Ramirez (Jorge Zuniga), sons, Antonio Ramirez, Jr (Pattie), Joey Lee Ramirez (Mindi), mother, Tommi Gaitan Orosco, 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, sisters, Gloria Horton, Rebecca Gaitan (Michael Gonzales), Lupe Gaitan, Kathy Orosco, Tracy Chavez (Paul), Dolly Bernal (Pete), brothers, Vincent Gaitan, Jr (Mary), Ramiro Gaitan (Cynthia), Gilberto Gaitan (Sheila), Joseph Gaitan (Kristen), Trini Gaitan (Roxanne), Adam Orosco (Linda), Albert Orosco, Jr (Mary Lou), Jose Villareal and Bernie Flores. She was preceded in death by her father, and stepfather, Albert Orosco, Sr and brother-in-law, Donald Horton.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm Thursday, February 23, 2023 in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home. A Holy Rosary will follow at 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Friday, February 24, 2023 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Gonzales Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers: Keisey Ramirez, Leroy Kuhn, Robert Kuhn, Johnny Cantu, Jorge Zuniga and James Rhodes, Jr. Honorary pallbearers: Antonio Ramirez, Jr., Joey Ramirez, Ramiro Gaitan, Joseph Gaitan, Gilberto Gaitan, Vincent Gaitan, Jr., and Trini Gaitan.
