Joy Nell Spahn Low

Posted

Joy Nell Spahn Low, age 94, entered eternity with Jesus her Savior on February 4, 2024. She was born at home in Gonzales on July 13, 1929 to Walter Adam and Veda Pearl Caraway Spahn, the fourth of seven children. She married Clarence David Low of Gonzales on May 3, 1947, and she graduated from Gonzales High School a couple weeks later. Their only son, Walter David Low, was born to them in 1953.

Joy Nell was a loving wife and mother to her family. They lived in several different cities in south Texas, moving as required for her husband's work for rural electric cooperatives. During that time, Joy Nell was employed by Medina Electric Coop for 10 years herself.  She had many stories to tell about their time in Uvalde where they were friends with, and frequently entertained, Mr. And Mrs. Dolph Briscoe.  The Lows returned to Gonzales to live in 1990.

Traveling the U.S. was something Joy was able to enjoy and she took many trips with the Baptist Church XYZs. Some of her favorite destinations were Branson, Missouri; Terlingua, Texas; and Nashville, Tennessee.  Her favorite trips, though, were to the beaches of the Texas Gulf coast. She regaled her family and friends with many amusing stories of vacations at Indianola and South Padre Island. South Padre Island was her favorite place to visit with her extended family.

Her family will remember her as a funny lady who always had a story to tell.  She possessed a dry sense of humor and a quick wit that will be forever missed by those who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: brothers Lewis Spahn, Kenneth Spahn, and Wayne Spahn; sisters Linda June Spahn, Odessa Harborth, Elaine Martin Rose. Her husband and son also predeceased her. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Rachel Low of Ennis, TX; sister-in-law, Loretta Spahn of Gonzales; brother-in-law, Winston Low and wife Louise of Victoria, TX; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 9 at 2 p.m. at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Gonzales with Reverend Clint Lowery officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Memorial Heights Baptist Church of Gonzales.
