Maria De Jesusa Almaraz

Maria De Jesusa Almaraz, 105, of Waelder, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2022. Maria was born June 1, 1917, in Saltillo, Mexico to Juan Molina and Lucia Velasquez Molina. She married Cesario Almaraz on January 29, 1941, in Waelder, Texas. 

Maria was a homemaker and a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. She was dedicated to spreading the love of our Lord Jesus Christ through his mother the Blessed Virgin of Guadalupe as a member of the Guadalupana Society. She enjoyed visiting with family after Sunday Mass. She believed in the power of prayer and faithfully recited the Rosary. She loved getting together with her daughters as well as church members to make tamales. She greatly enjoyed quilting and had made quilts for family as well as friends. Her other past times included gardening, working her flower beds, and feeding stray cats. She loved her family with her whole heart and would do anything to help anyone.

She lived during the most eventful century of this world’s history and on her 100th Birthday the Mayor of Waelder proclaimed June 1, 2017, as “Jesusa Almaraz Day”. Family, friends and the community of Waelder gathered to celebrate this incredible milestone. 

Maria is survived by her loving family; daughters, Rosa Martinez (Arturo) of Austin, Josephine Rosas (Steven) of Waelder, Janie Melchor (Samuel) of Waelder, sons, Robert Almaraz (Victoria) of Houston, Rudy Almaraz (Lolly) of Katy, and Joe Almaraz of Houston. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Cesario Almaraz and daughter Beatrice Amezquita (Manuel).

Pallbearers will include Ralph Almaraz, Manuel Amezquita, Robert Martinez, Gabriel Rosas, Eddie Almaraz, and Brenden Rodriguez. Honorary pallbearers will include Gilbert Rosas and Rene Castillo.

A visitation will take place at Seydler- Hill Funeral Home in Gonzales,Tx Friday, November, 18th 5PM to 7PM with a rosary following at 7PM. A funeral mass will take place at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Waelder,Tx on November 19, 2022 at 10am, interment will follow at Waelder Community Cemetery.

Services are under the care and direction of Seydler- Hill Funeral Home.
