Paul Winston Carroll (1936 - 2024)

Paul was a patriotic, devoted family man. He went to be with the Lord on August 7th, 2024. Those he left behind will miss his jovial laugh and boisterous sense of humor.

Paul was born in 1936 in Nacogdoches, TX. He studied to become a chemical engineer at both Texas A&M and UT. Soon after graduating, he met the love of his life, Shirley Laverne Hunt. They were married in Texas City, TX,  on June 3rd, 1961. With Shirley in tow, he began his service with the Air National Guard - starting in San Antonio, TX and traveling all over Europe. Paul was a ground radio operator and was honorably discharged in 1962 from Kelly AFB.

Post-service, Paul and Shirley built a beautiful life together in Gonzales, Texas. Paul, a lover of learning, began a career as a chemical engineer with Southern Clay, researching and developing products. The family had four children: Kendall, Dana, Steven and Shauna.

He was a charismatic Christian and had a strong personal relationship with Christ. His strong convictions would reveal his staunch conservatism. Fox News was his channel of choice, and loved the Wall Street Journal. He was an animal and nature-lover, spending many hours outside caring for all kinds of critters and plants. In 2021, Paul and Shirley joined Dana and her husband, Trent, in their home in Flower Mound, TX. While often quiet and reflective, a funny joke could bring out his jovial, zany sense of humor that always proved contagious.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Hollis and Clyde Carroll, and his brother, Donald.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, his children, Kendall, Dana, Steven, and Shauna, and his grandchildren, Krystal, Alyssa, Shayna, Daniel, David, Dillon, Madison, Wynston, Lynden, Eden, Miranda, Jonathan, Cody, Connor, Samuel, and Kylea and many great grandchildren.

Paul’s family and friends will celebrate his life in the Chapel at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville, Texas on Wednesday, August 14th at 2:00 PM. Visitation begins at 1 PM. The following day, a military funeral honors ceremony will be held at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at 11:00 AM.  Paul’s love for his Savior, his family, and his country was evident in the way he lived his life. We are blessed to carry on his memory. In honor of Paul, spend time today with the Lord and cherish the ones you love.

In lieu of flowers, you may consider making a donation to the Wounded Warriors Project or Samaritan's Purse in Paul’s honor.
