Randall "Randy" Earl Thomas

Randall "Randy" Earl Thomas was born on February 26, 1960, to William and Ethel Thomas in Luling, Texas. He passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by family, in Harwood, Texas, on June 22, 2024, at the age of 64, following a tough battle with pancreatic cancer.

Randy's childhood fostered his love for sports, especially football and baseball. His strong work ethic grew through his time in sports and working with his dad in the oil patch during the summers. He graduated from Luling High School in 1979.

In 1981, Randy married the love of his life, Connie "Reed" Thomas, at St. James Catholic Church in Gonzales, Texas. Together, they raised five children and have nine grandchildren. In his roles as Daddy and Pawpaw, he shared his love in many ways: his words of wisdom, his coaching both on and off the field, his love of travel and hunting, his passion for history, his love of music and dancing, and his faith. While he loved Texas, his favorite place to be was in the mountains, where he found peace in the beautiful views, hunting with his sons and friends, and in past years skiing with family. His travels took him all over the world, including places like China, Canada, and the Holy Land. He was an amazing provider and shared his incredible work ethic with each of his children, supporting them through college and beyond. He was so proud to watch each of them graduate from college.

Randall worked in the oil and gas industry for over 47 years as a second-generation oilman. He started his career in the oilfield working for Johnson Oilfield Service under his father during high school. After numerous years of drilling and production in and around the Luling Austin Chalk area, Randall ventured offshore, working for Unocal for almost a decade. Over the last 20 years, Randall formed a series of companies that brought innovative technologies and cost-saving concepts to declining and marginal production fields, including Go West Logistics, LLC, Payzone Ultra, LLC, and Petrologic, LLC. By managing a consulting practice specializing in logistics for drilling and fracking operations, Randall acted as the "Subject Matter Expert" for SandBox Logistics inventors, effectively disrupting the delivery methods for frac sand to well sites globally. With his extensive knowledge of work-over rig operations (both onshore and offshore oil production), Randall was engaged in numerous oil drilling and completion projects in the Austin Chalk and Eagle Ford Shale regions of Texas. Most recently, he was the author and founder of Industrial Vacuum Transfer Service (IVTS USA).

Randy is survived by his adoring wife of 43 years, Connie Reed Thomas of Harwood, Texas; his five children, Randall Nathan Thomas (Shelley) of Katy, Texas, Ryan Matthew Thomas (Kortnie) of Katy, Texas, Nicole Elizabeth Thomas Watts (Jeff) of Luling, Texas, Cassidy Faith Thomas Bloch (Brayden) of New Braunfels, Texas, and Tiffany Anne Thomas of Houston, Texas; and nine precious grandchildren: Madison Grace Thomas, Tye Triston Thomas, Peyton Elizabeth Thomas, Layne Patrick Thomas, Kendall Clare Watts, Grace Landry Thomas, Ella Faith Thomas, Bowen Michael Watts, and Hadley Lynn Bloch. He is also survived by his siblings, Speedy Thomas (Sylvia), Kathy Smith, Johnny Thomas (Loretta), and Brenda Brown (Kenneth), as well as many loving nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Keith Thomas.

The family will receive friends from 4pm-6pm, Thursday, June 27th at St. John’s Catholic Church in Luling, Texas. The rosary will follow beginning at 6pm. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 28th at 10 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in String Prairie, Texas with Father Victor Mayorga, Deacon Terry Brennan, and Deacon Carlos David Blanco officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery. Pallbearers include: Matthew Bishop, Neil Brashears, Eric Brast, Lanny Ellis, Lyndon Hamilton, Bubba Mager, Scooter Mosier, and Brian Sirgo. Honorary Pallbearers include: Darrell Barrington, Delton Bishop, Terry Brashears, Jimmy Brast, Gary Foreman, Bobby Long, Allen McMahon, Robert Mosier, Calvin Thomas and Russell Thomas.
