Robert C. “Bob” Holmes, Jr., 79, of Seguin passed away Sunday, October 31, 2021. He was born September 8, 1942 in Gonzales to Robert C. Holmes, Sr. and Evelyn Cecil Steiger Holmes. Bob married Patsy Lassig on January 16, 1965 in North Carolina.
Bob grew up in Gonzales and graduated from Gonzales High School with the Class of 1960. He attended Southwest Texas Teacher’s College before enlisting into the U.S. Navy in May of 1961. Bob was committed and disciplined in his service to his country. He and Patsy were stationed all over the world in places like Morocco, London, Antarctica, and Guam along with stateside bases in San Diego, CA, Damneck, VA, Brunswick, ME, Norfolk, VA, New Orleans, LA, Indianapolis, IN, and Beeville, TX. Bob had also served aboard the USS Dealey for a year. Bob retired from the U.S. Navy after 21 years of honorable service as a Master Chief Personnelman. Settling in Beeville, TX after his service to country, Bob went to work for DynCorp in 1982 and later retired from Boeing in 2003.
After retirement Bob and Patsy moved to Seguin, TX to help raise their grandchildren. Bob enjoyed retirement while caring for his grandkids with Patsy and watching his grandsons play football. He enjoyed his trips to Las Vegas and his weekly golf outings with his golfing buddies, but favored his time with his grandchildren, cherishing time spent watching them grow into wonderful people. He was passionate University of Texas football fan and for 30 years he and his boys attended games cheering for the Longhorns. Bob was always supportive of his family and their needs, he worked hard to put all three of his children through college and took time to travel with Patsy enjoying a Rhine River Cruise and excursions to Spain, Italy, Venice, London, Paris, and Normandy. Bob was an adoring husband to Patsy and together they treasured 56 years together.
Robert C. “Bob” Holmes is survived by his loving family; wife, Patsy Holmes of Seguin, sons, Robert C. Holmes, III and wife Barbara of Austin, Scott Holmes and wife Lori of Seguin, and Chris Holmes and wife Nicole of Seguin, grandchildren, Alex, Luke, Ryan, Brian, Matthew, Tyler, Brianna and Barrett Holmes and his sister, Sharon Adkins. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Gary Adkins.
The family will receive friends from 1 pm to 2 pm Saturday, November 6, 2021 in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home with a Memorial Service following at 2 pm in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home with Pastor Cathe Evins officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Gonzales Masonic Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers: Royce Towns, Elgin Heinemeyer, Carroll David Wiley, James Lassig and Bill Reeves.
