Ruby Nell Berger, 94, passed away December 25, 2023.  Ruby was born December 28, 1928, in Cuero Texas to the late Henry Otto and Elsie Matilda Goebel Dreier. She was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Gonzales Tx.

Their story began when Bill saw Ruby on a volleyball court and told his friend, “I’m going to marry that girl.”   She indeed married William Arthur Berger on September 30, 1946, in Victoria County.   Ruby and Bill lived in Gonzales their entire married life (77 years) and were blessed with three sons and their families.  Robert (Bobby) Berger (JoAnn) of Moulton, Richard (Ricky) Berger and Randall (Randy) Berger (Trish) all of Gonzales.

They enjoyed life together and have shared many wonderful memories.   They often spoke of family and friend gatherings at the cabin on Lake Wood (H5).   Bowling was also a huge part of their life.  The entire family participated in weekly league bowling.  As many couples did years ago, she spoke of hosting and playing dominos with a monthly 42 Domino Club.  And of course, a lot of dancing and traveling with friends.

She was a talented seamstress and worked for Singer in Gonzales and taught sewing for several years.  Ruby worked as Secretary for her beloved Gonzales Jr. High School, retiring in 1984.   Ruby was a much loved and devoted employee of Seydler-Hill Funeral Home and spoke often of the joy and camaraderie of coffee time.

Ruby is survived by her husband and sons.   Grandchildren; Wayne Berger (Mariah) of Cuero, Keith Berger of Gonzales, Jessica Baldassari (Matthew) of Schertz, Michelle Berger Schoener of Victoria, Ashley Berger (Dominic Vega) of Gonzales.  In-Laws Fred Berger (Marie) and Lillian Berger and numerous great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers, James Dreier (Geneva) and Gilbert Dreier (Marlene).  In-Laws, Alan Berger (Edna Mae), William Loest (Doris Loest Eichman), Charlie Tater Jr. (Margie) and Baltus (BJ) Berger.

Ruby was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be missed by all.  Her presence was a gift, and the memories she created will continue to bring smiles to the faces of her family and friends.

Services will be held at 10 am in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home on Friday, December 29, 2023.   The Rev. Ray Hagan, interim pastor of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church will conduct the services, with burial in the Hermann Sons Cemetery.
