The Gonzales High School Class of 1964 and the Community Foundation of the Gonzales Area (CFGA), a 501(c)(3) organization, will join forces once again to hold their golf tournament which honors the county’s “Fallen but not Forgotten” Vietnam veterans and proudly presents scholarships to area students in the names of Tommy Chenault and Kenny McGinty.
The 2023 annual tournament was successful enough to raise funds to provide 12 scholarships to students in Gonzales, Waelder, and the two high schools in Shiner. This year, it is hoped that funds raised can provide even more academic and vocational scholarships.
Through the support of the many area sponsors — including the Gonzales Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture, the Class of 1964, and the tournament players, who generously give money and supplies to make the event enjoyable and a financial success — the CFGA can offer more opportunities to those in need of a little financial help to achieve their goals.
The GHS Class of 1964 and the CFGA look forward to holding the sixth annual tournament on Oct. 5, 2024, at the Gonzales Independence Golf Course. This tournament has grown from its humble beginnings due to the tremendous support of the GHS Class of 1964 and the people of Gonzales and surrounding areas.
The tournament is now an integral part of the Come & Take It celebration. Organizers look forward to continued support for this worthwhile event.
