James Anthony Knox Sr.

James Anthony Knox, Sr. – beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend passed away on July 8, 2024 in Seguin, Texas.

On October 26, 1958, Yina Mae Knox and Robert Knox were blessed with a healthy baby boy in Idell, North Carolina. They named him James Anthony Knox.

After finishing West Rowan High School, he went on to further his career by enlisting in the U.S. Army. While stationed in Germany, he meets the love of his life, Opra Mae Johnson. After serving in the Army for four years, they moved back to North Carolina. Three years later, they moved to Gonzales, Texas where they would start their own family.

James started working for the Dryland Shrimp House in Harwood. He later went to work at Wal-Mart, where he worked for over 15 years. He enjoyed being a Substitute Teacher for Gonzales Independent School District where he worked until his health failed.

James was a devoted and active member of Providence Baptist Church.

James loved to help others in any way that he could. Also, anything dealing with family, he was definitely up to the task.

James was preceded in death by his daughter, Vanessa Alice Knox and grandparents.

James leaves to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted wife of 40 years, Opra Mae Knox, one son, James Anthony Knox, Jr., two brothers, Clay Knox and Greg Knox; one sister, Sherry Knox; one grandson, Daevien Pitts; two granddaughters, Skylar and Madison Bowie; a hosts of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life was held on Monday, July 15th, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Providence Baptist Church in Gonzales by Reverend Gary L. Clack, Pastor/Eulogist.
